Our Goal
Our goal is to provide a safe route for the children
of our community to and from school. Currently, hundreds of local kids are now trying to work their way
to and from school through all kinds of obstacles, including cars, busses, trains, ditches, and snow. The
danger is escalating with more and more traffic driving through droves of
students who have no safe place to go.
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has created the Student Neighborhood Access Program (SNAP) and awards
funding to some community proposals. Also- possibly available to Mendon will
be some funding throughCache
County
restaurant/RAPZ Tax. There have been valiant efforts by many in Mendon to secure
these awards. And with many thanks to Stephanie Driessen
and Tim Watkins, we have recently heard that their submitted proposal has been accepted!
But there is still almost $100,000 to raise.
Mendon
City
council has formed the Mendon City Trails Committee to help raise the additional funds needed.
In many cases, students encounter roadside hazards such as this one that the following
photo points out. There is nowhere for kids to go except to the middle of the road, where the drivers vision
is even sometimes limited.

Washington's Prayer
Mike Malm ofWellsville,
Utah
(
www.mikemalm.com
) is an award winning, well-known artist who has generously donated a beautiful painting entitled “Washington’s Prayer”. This is an original framed (20” x 30” canvas) piece
that stunningly depicts President Washington’s famous prayer at
Valley
Forge
. It immediately quiets all the noise, chaos, and confusion surrounding our
country; planting hope and rekindling patriotism. Mike has captured something private and stirring in this one-of-a-kind
painting that links viewers to this great nation’s powerful beginning. When
asked about his painting, a quiet and humble Mike simply stated that he hopes it speaks for itself.
The Mendon City Trails Committee is working to get the word out about this painting.
If you can’t make it to Mendon’s May Day celebration to sneak a peek on May 2,
it will also be shown at the Mountainside Elementary’s Open house on May 7.
“
Washington
’s Prayer” is up for auction May 2, 2009 through the end of May 11.
